manly like umit

Wegen seinem Bart.

Umit says that men have to be manly. I think he’s right. And every year, on all the big fashion shows worldwide, the german-born turkish designer shows how he defines masculinity. Not only Suzy Menkes thinks he’s doing a good job – no, even his icon Nino Cerruti loves his work. And even though he doesn’t look like a stereotypical designer with all his baggy pants, the navy jackets and his „Hobo-Beard“, his fanbase is growing nevertheless.  Talking about his Style: Although living in Milan, all this italian glamour is not quite his cup of tea. Umit likes a sort of balanced slouchiness. His words, not mine.
I do like his style. And, let’s be honest, I like him. One of the reasons why is his beard. And the fact, that he and his designs are finally killing off those metrosexual weaklings.

This is Umit.

who the fuck is alistair?

Pringle of Scotland Fall/Winter 2012

Alistair is young, tattoed, and has close-cropped hair.
Pringle of Scotland is old (nearly 200 years), synonym for the Twinset and Argyle and the Queen’s a fan.
At first glance, the young british designer seems wrongly placed with the traditional brand. But one year after Carr took the post as creative director at Pringle, everyone can see how fitting this combination is after all. He had the brief to bring this old house into the 21st century.
It’s been only 12 months, but he already did it. He did have the best prior conditions for his mission.

In 2003 he graduated the MA Course Fashion Design Womens Wear at Central Saint Martins in London. His teacher was Louise Wilson OBE, famous for raising the fashion talents of the next Generation. 90% of her Students start at big brands or launch their own label. Alistair did the latter, and showed his work at London Fashion Week for three seasons.
In 2006 he waved Great Britain and his Label Goodbye and moved to Milan to work at Marni under the Direction of Paulo Melim Anderson. But already a short time later he felt he had to move on. Off he went to Paris for a quick stunt at Cacharel and Balenciaga. He then got the chance to work with Hannah McGibbon at Chloé. After one season though he returned to Balenciaga to work under the directon of his then mentor and design idol Nicolas Ghesquière. He stayed till March last year, when he was appointed as Creative Director of Pringle of Scotland.
Carrs passion and talent lies with innovative and contemporary designs in luxurious materials. And although he didn’t have any experience in knitwear, it was reason enough to bring him to Pringle. It’s his personal goal to make tradition modern by reinterpretation of the labels old values. “I’m going to do what I learned from Nicolas: to take things, question them, and look at them from a different angle. I think there’s such potential to do interesting things with knitwear in that way.”

stick dich!

Denn ich will MEHR!

I'm in love!! To be more precise, I'm in love with Daniel Kornrumpfs work. The american artist is crazy enough to do hyper-realistic embroidered portraits. Yes, EMBROIDERED! The same thing your gandma did when she wasn't knitting socks. Instead of hearts and flowers, Kornrumpf shows normal people. Now, for the first time in three years, he did a new piece (last picture). I don't know about you, but I hope he continues, 'cause I want MORE!
